The Reel Frontier
Film & Video Competition…
…celebrates and rewards
excellence and innovation in independent media arts
expression. We are looking for the best new films
and videos from around the world to be part of the
independent landscape of the “reel frontier.”
Entries Due By
February 9, 2007
Eligibility
“The Reel Frontier” is
open to independent works of all lengths in
narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental
categories.
-
Films and videos
entered in the festival must have been completed
between January 2006 and February 2007.
-
Works entered must
be an Arizona premiere. (Entries from Arizona
filmmakers may have had one public
Arizona screening.)
-
Entries must be in
English or have English subtitles
-
Works submitted to
previous Arizona International Film Festivals
are not eligible.
-
Corporate/industrial/instructional works
are not eligible. Filmmakers must have complete
creative control and responsibility for the work
submitted.
-
Entries may
originate from any film or video format.
-
For pre-screening,
entries must be submitted on DVD or 1/2” VHS
NTSC format.
-
For festival
screenings, finalists must supply a 16mm or 35mm
film print or an exhibition tape in Beta-SP,
DVCam, Mini DV, or DVD in NTSC format.
Categories & Awards
Entries must be
submitted in one of the following categories:

Narrative Feature
(60 minutes and over)

Documentary
Feature (50 minutes and over)

Documentary
Short (under 50 minutes)

Short Feature (30
– 60 minutes)

Dramatic Short (up
to 30 minutes)

Comedy Short (up to
30 minutes)

Animated Short (up
to 30 minutes)

Experimental Short
(up to 30 minutes)

If the pre-screening
committee judges that it is in the best interest
of the filmmaker to change the category of an
entry, the committee reserves the right to do
so. Awards will be made to the BEST in each
category. The BEST OF ARIZONA also will be
awarded to an Arizona entry. Selected winning
entries will also be offered theatrical dates at
The Screening Room in downtown Tucson.
Judging
All entries (submitted
on DVD or VHS) are reviewed by pre-screening panels
of media experts and evaluated according to content,
form, and technical aspects. Panel members and the
festival director will determine the finalists for
screening at the festival.

Entrants will be
notified by email as to the status of the entry.

Filmmakers,
curators, educators, and critics will select
festival award recipients from the finalists
screened during the festival. Judges reserve
the right not to select a winner in any given
category. All decisions by the judges are
final.
Entry Procedures
Complete ONE entry form
for EACH work submitted and send with entry fee
(check or money order), publicity materials (press
kit, 50 word synopsis, stills, posters), and preview
tape or DVD to:

Entry Fees
An entry fee must be
paid for each submission. Fee covers administrative
and handling costs and is non-refundable. Make
check or money order payable to:

All entries, entry
forms, and fees, and supporting materials (press
kits, posters, and publicity photos) must be
received by February 9, 2007.
Shipping Instructions
-
Clearly identify the
title of the work and running time on the
shipping container. All exhibition film prints
must have head and tail leaders clearly marked
with film title and reel number.
-
Provide a
self-addressed, stamped postcard if you require
an acknowledgement of receipt of your entry.
-
Finalists are
responsible for arrangements and cost of
shipping the entry to the festival by March 30,
2007.
Return of Preview
Materials
-
Please enclose a
self-addressed shipping envelope with return
postage affixed for return of your preview tape
or DVD. Otherwise, they will not be returned.
-
VHS preview tapes of
productions selected for the festival will be
retained for publicity purposes.
-
Stills, press kits,
or promotional material submitted with your
entry will not be returned.
Return Shipping of
Entry
-
The festival will
cover the cost of return shipping within the
United States.
-
The festival will
NOT pay for the cost of express shipping to
other sites or international shipping. Please
include payment to cover express or
international shipping costs if required.

Work screened at the
festival will be shipped within fifteen days of
the close of the film festival unless other
arrangements have been made.
Loss & Damage
Every care will be taken
to safeguard entries while they are in the
possession of the festival. However, if loss or
damage occurs, the festival cannot accept or assume
responsibility.
Agreement
-
Entry into festival
constitutes agreement with all festival rules
and guidelines and implies permission to exhibit
work during the festival.

Submission of an
entry gives the festival permission to have
accepted work screened on local television and
internet, unless otherwise indicated on the
entry form.
