THE BUSINESS OF FANCYDANCING
Sherman Alexie, USA, 2002, 103 min.
Poet, author and screenwriter Sherman Alexie brings THE BUSINESS OF FANCYDANCING, the film that marked his directorial debut, to The Screening Room. It is a story about a gay Indian poet who confronts his past when he returns to the reservation to attend the funeral of a friend. This unconventional film of homecoming and reconciliation mixes spoken poetry, ceremonial dancing, music performance, mock home video footage and adversarial interviews. Alexie will be in attendance to answer questions.
Thursday, February 17 at 7:00pm
Admission to this special Tucson Poetry Festival fundraiser is $10.

Preparing audiences for the cinematic extravaganza of the 2005 Arizona International Film Festival (April 14-24), The Screening Room will feature a series of cinema gems from past festivals.

DEADLINE
Pavel Ruminov, Russia, 2004, 60 min.
A television writer has less than a day left to finish his script. A debilitating case of writer's block trumps even his fear of death when the investors demand his head. Physical torture is the muse he needs to finish the story, and a "little thriller" emerges from his torment. Moscow filmmaker Pavel Ruminov selected the Arizona Film Festival to debut his film. Award-winning shorts from past festivals will also be featured.
Friday, February 18 & Saturday, February 19 at 7:30pm. Admission is $5.
