AWARD WINNING “CROSSING ARIZONA” RETURNS TO TUCSON
CROSSING ARIZONA, voted Best Documentary at the 2006 Arizona International Film
Festival, will be featured at The Screening Room during the month of June.
A probing look into the heated debate surrounding illegal immigration and a
failed border policy, CROSSING ARIZONA surveys conflicting feelings surrounding
human rights, culture, class, and national security. Interviews with local
activists, ranch owners, and minutemen present the range of attitudes
surrounding the issue while making it clear that the current border strategy
fails everyone.
The filmmakers were inspired to make the film after meeting a member of the
Tohono O’odham nation who spends his days filling water stations along migrant
trails on his reservation, says that he is telling “an urgent American story”
that “shines a light on the humanity of the individual while providing an
opportunity to contemplate and question the larger issues of the society we live
in.”
